Increases the ship's max velocity upon activation. The thrust that boosts the ship, and the corresponding maximum velocity bonus, are limited by the mass of the ship that uses this module.

Afterburners add speed without the signature penalty a microwarpdrive carries, which keeps a ship harder to hit while it moves. They are the better choice whenever the fight is already at close range.
